Song Share: Baal Shem: Nigun

By Angus McKay

I was asked to orchestrate this song so Caleb could play it with his school orchestra at the end of this school year. I had never heard it before, but since beginning work on it, I have listened to it probably 100 times and I have never grown tired of hearing it. It is an amazing and moving piece of music. It comes from a compilation called "Three Portraits of Chasidic Life". I know nothing about Ernest Bloch, but I will be definitely looking into his other works now.

Song Share: Hey, Soul Sister

By Sarah Scoville

I know this song is being over played on the radio, but I sure like it. The lyrics stick in my head and make me happy. Am I the only one that enjoys it? Doesn't it just make you smile? You can check out Train's website at http://www.trainline.com/us/home if you feel so inclined to enjoy more tunes from them. Happy Day!!

Hey, Soul Sister by Train

Lyrics:
Hey, hey, hey

Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains
I knew I wouldn't forget you, and so I went and let you blow my mind
Your sweet moonbeam, the smell of you in every single dream I dream
I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided who's one of my kind

Hey soul sister, ain't the Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...tonight
Hey, hey,hey

Just in time, I'm so glad you have a one-track mind like me
You gave my life direction, a game show love connection we can't deny
I'm so obsessed, my heart is bound to beat right out my untrimmed chest
I believe in you, like a virgin, you're Madonna, and I'm always gonna wanna blow your mind

Hey soul sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...tonight

The way you can't cut a rug, watching you's the only drug I need
You're so gangsta, I'm so thug, you're the only one I'm dreaming of
You see, I can be myself now finally, in fact there's nothing I can't be
I want the world to see you be with me

Hey soul sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do tonight,
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...tonight
Hey, hey,hey

Tonight
Hey, hey,hey

Song Share: Cough Syrup

By Alex Madrigal

I first heard this band when I went to go see a different band called fun. They put on a great show and had really good songs. Back then they were called The Jakes, but they have recently (after going over to roadrunner records) changed their name to Young the Giant. Naming themselves after the Brothers Grimm fairytale, which you can read here.

They have a few tracks for free download at Purevolume.com and I believe you can buy the album there as well (if you are so inclined). Also, if you download the free tracks ... place your cursor right below the playlist, it scrolls down to other songs of theirs (it might be slow, but it took me a bit to catch on to this). Let me know what you think of Cough Syrup, its the most downloaded on Purevolume.com so I figure it has the best chances.

Cough Syrup by Young the Giant

Lyrics:
Life’s too short to even care at all oh
I’m losing my mind losing my mind losing control
These fishes in the sea they’re staring at me oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
A wet world longs for a beat of a drum
Oh
If I could find a way to see this straight
I’d run away
To some fortune that I should have found by now
Uhh ch ch ch ch
Life’s too short to even care at all oh
I’m coming up now coming up now out of the blue
These zombies in the park they’re looking for my heart
Oh oh oh oh
A dark world aches for a splash of the sun oh oh
If I could find a way to see this straight
I’d run away
To some fortune that I should have found by now
And so I run to the things they said could restore me
Restore life the way it should be
Waiting for this cough syrup to come down
Life’s too short to even care at all oh
I’m losing my mind losing my mind losing it all
If I could find a way to see this straight
I’d run away
To some fortune that I should have found by now
So I run to the things they said could restore me
Restore life the way it should be
Waiting for this cough syrup to come down
One more spoon of cough syrup now
One more spoon of cough syrup now

Song Share: Aphex Twin / Bright Eyes Mashup

By Martin Gonzalez

So the first time i heard this i was like oh man i must steal it! and then i found out if was free... I still stole it =).
It's two songs from bands I really like and it got a cool video to boot. Jack Conte the guy behind this basically made up some rules for the video that make it kinda fun.
They are as follows:

1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).

I think i watched it a few time just to find all the sounds.
So make sure you watch the video and don't just turn it on and go read something else!

Aphex Twin / Bright Eyes Mashup
by Jack Conte

Lyrics ("First Day of my Life" by Bright Eyes):
This is the first day of my life
I swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain suddenly everything changed
They're spreading blankets on the beach

Yours is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
Now I don't know where I am
I don't know where I've been
But I know where I want to go

And so I thought I'd let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realize that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home

Remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
And I thought it was strange you said everything changed
You felt as if you'd just woke up
And you said "this is the first day of my life
I'm glad I didn't die before I met you
But now I don't care I could go anywhere with you
And I'd probably be happy"

So if you want to be with me
With these things there's no telling
We just have to wait and see
But I'd rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win the lottery
Besides maybe this time is different
I mean I really think you like me

Song Share: Kings and Queens

By Kohl Glass

I heard this song on the radio going into work today and . . .

A song with a chorus of effusive yelling, ever escalating along a U2 like guitar, topped by a crowd singing . . . just seems to be where it's at for me.

Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars

Lyrics:
Into the night
Desperate and broken
The sound of a fight
Father has spoken

We were the kings and queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

Into your eyes
Hopeless and taken
We stole our new lives
Through blood and name
In defense of our dreams
In defense of our dreams

We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

The age of man is over
A darkness comes at dawn
These lessons that we learned here
Have only just begun

We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a Lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell

We are the Kings
We are the Queens
We are the Kings
We are the Queens

Song Share: Surf Wax America

By Ammon Shepherd

Here's another great Weezer song. This one also brings back riverboarding memories, but also the one time I tried to be in a band.... This was the song we practiced, once, and never again....

Surf Wax America
by Weezer

Lyrics:
The sea is foaming like a bottle of beer
The wave is coming but I ain't got no fear
I'm waxing down so that I'll go real fast
I'm waxing down because it's really a blast
I'm going surfin cos I don't like your face
I'm bailing out because I hate the race
Of rats that run round and round in the maze
I'm going surfing, I'm going surfing!

You take your car to work
I'll take my board
And when you're out of fuel
I'm still afloat

My buddies and their honeys all come along
They seem invincible as they surf along
The sea is rolling like a thousand pound keg
We're going surfing, we're going surfing!

You take your car to work
I'll take my board
And when you're out of fuel
I'm still afloat

You take your car to work
I'll take my board
And when you're out of fuel
I'm still afloat

All along the undertow
Is strengthening it's hold
I never thought it would come to this
Now I can never go home

All along the undertow
Is strengthening it's hold
I never thought it would come to this
Now I can never go home

You take your car to work
I'll take my board
And when you're out of fuel
I'm still afloat

All along the undertow (you take your car to work)
Is strengthening it's hold (I'll take my board)
I never thought it would come to this (and when you're out of fuel)
Now I can never go home (I'm still afloat)

You take your car to work
I'll take my board
And when you're out of fuel
I'm still afloat

You take your car
I'll take my board
You take your car
I'll take my board
Let's go!

Song Share: Say It Ain't So

By Ammon Shepherd

So many good memories of heading out to the river to do some riverboarding, hanging out with friends... highschool... good stuff.

Say It Ain't So
by Weezer

Lyrics:
Oh Yeah.
All Right.

Somebody's Heine' is crowdin' my icebox.
Somebody's cold one is giving me chills.
Guess I'll just close my eyes.

Oh yeah.
All right.
Feels good.
Inside.

Flip on the Tele... Wrestle with Jimmy.
Somethin' is bubblin' behind my back.
The bottle is ready to blow.

Say it ain't so a-woah-a-woah.
Your drug is a heartbreaker.
Say it ain't so a-woah-a-woah.
My love is a life-taker.

I can't confront you, I never could do...
That which might hurt you.
To try and be cool, when I say:
This way is-a-waterslide-away-from-me-
that-takes-you-further-every-day! Hey!
To be cool.

Say it ain't so a-woah-a-woah.
Your drug is a heartbreaker.
Say it ain't so a-woah-a-woah.
My love is a life-taker!

Dear daddy, I write you in spite of fears of silence.
You cleaned up, found Jesus, Things are good or so I hear.
This bottle of Stevens awakens ancient feelings...
Like father, stepfather...
The son is drowning in the flood! Yeah Yeah-Yeah Yeah-Yeah!

Say it ain't so a-woah-a-woah.
Your drug is a heartbreaker.
Say it ain't so a-woah-a-woah.
My love is a life-taker.

Song Share: Broken Promise

By Alex Madrigal

I thought of this song during music night when we were talking about how anything that Michael Stipe touches is gold. Brian Molko is a great song writer and i love his voice. His voice is so unique and emotional. I also like that this song shows Placebo's 2 sides, their quiet sad side and the loud angstful and angry side.

Broken Promise by Placebo

Lyrics:
We'll rise above this
We'll cry about this
As we live and learn
A broken promise
I was not honest
Now I watch as tables turn
And you’re singing

I’ll wait my turn
To tear inside you
Watch you burn
I’ll wait my turn
I’ll wait my turn

I’ll cry about this
And hide my cuckold eyes
As you come off all concerned
I’ll find no solace
In your poor apology
In your regret that sounds absurd
And keep singing

I’ll wait my turn
To tear inside you
Watch you burn
And I’ll wait my turn
To terrorize you
Watch you burn
And I’ll wait my turn
I’ll wait my turn

And this is a promise
Promise is a promise
Promise is a promise
Promise is a promise

And I’ll wait my turn
To tear inside you
Watch you burn
I’ll wait my turn
I’ll wait my turn

A broken promise
You were not honest
I’ll bide my time
I’ll wait my turn

Song Share: Fast Car

By Angus McKay

I know almost nothing about Wyclef Jean (for a long time I didn't even know how to pronounce his name). I was introduced to this song through Paul Simon's website. As a devout Paul Simon fanatic I look into everything he is involved in. This was a surprising collaboration for me, but I think it works pretty well.

Lyrics:
[Intro: Wyclef Jean]
Yeah, this those Jersey boys

[Verse One: Wyclef]
I heard a man say Jesus Walks
Me myself I heard Jesus talk
Cause when I heard this beat I felt Jesus force
I heard it through the wire that he made it out the coma
from a fast car, it was a fast car
Yeah~!
Every day is like the wild wild West
Some of us are Bad Boys, some of us are Outlawz
Unsolved mystery, the killer get away
L.A., Vegas at the end of the day
in a fast car, drivin a fast car
Yeah~!

[Chorus: Wyclef, Paul Simon]
You don't gotta be no billionaire
To get a ticket up to the moon
We all know somebody up there
You need a helpin hand, look up right here
To help you see clearly now
To help you see clearly now
I hope you see clearly now
[scratched:] "AW YEAH!"

[Verse Two: Wyclef]
What would you do after your bachelor party
In the bar celebratin with all your homies
Go outside and you ready to ride
Then over 51 shots but you ain't ready to die
in your fast car, yeah, in your fast car
Paul Simon, talk to 'em

[Interlude: Paul Simon]
When that fast car picks you up
You will have no choice
You may hear the tires screamin
But you will have no voice
When that fast car picks you up
You will weep and smile and see
Heaven in the headlights
Mile after mile after mile after mile

[Chorus]

[Verse Three: Wyclef]
E'rybody need some TLC
So she headed to Honduras for some TLC, yeah
Havin fun in Central America
But she was a passenger, never a driver
in that fast car yeah, ridin that fast car
Yeah~!
Sweet sixteen I see her leavin the scene
Crossin the street she won't see 17
Blink of an eye, DWI
Hit and run that's felonies
in a fast car, ridin the fast car
Yeah~!

[Interlude]
[Chorus]

[scratched:] "AW YEAH!"

[Chorus]

Song Share: Wolves

By Jake Parker

This guy, Matthew Houck, is a one man indie-folk-alternative-country band. This song Wolves was recorded live in the KEXP studio here in Brooklyn where I heard it one morning.

This song is open to many interpretations, but I personally think he's not describing wolves so much as he's talking about his own demons. It's as if the act of singing this song is flushing out something heavy that's been collecting in his heart. His voice isn't perfect. It warbles, and cracks, but I can't imagine this song being sung any other way.

Wolves by Phosphorescent

Lyrics:
Mama there's wolves in the house
Mama they won't let me out
Mama they're mating at night
Mama they wont make nice

They're pacing and glowing bright
Their faces all snowy and white
Bury their paws in the stone
Make for my heart as their home

They tumble and fight
And they're beautiful
On the hilltops at night
They are beautiful

Blazing with light
Is the whitest and the tallest and the biggest one
She's muscled and fine
When she runs

They're tearing up holes in the house
They're tearing their claws in the ground
They're staring with blood in their mouths
Mama they won't let me out

They tumble and fight
And they're beautiful
On the hilltops at night
They are beautiful

Blazing with light
Is the whitest and the tallest and the biggest one
All muscled and fine
When she runs

Mama there's wolves in the house
Mama i tried to put them out
And mama i know you're too wise
To wait till those wolves make nice

Song Share: Frontier Psychiatrist

By Martin Gonzalez

And now for something completely different. You know what I was going to try to explain this song and especially this video when I realized something very important. It just isn't possible to explain this. So enjoy!

Frontier Psychiatrist
by Avalanche

I'm not even sure these lyrics are correct but they look close, you'll get what i mean when you listen.

Lyrics:
Is Dexter ill, Is Dexter ill, Is Dexter ill
Is Dexter I'll today, Mr Kirk, Dexter's in school
I'm afraid he's not, Miss Fishborne
Dexter's truancy problem is way out of hand
The Baltimore County school board have decided to expel
Dexter from the entire public school system

Oh Mr Kirk, I'm as upset as you to learn of Dexter's truancy
But surely, expulsion is not the answer!
I'm afraid expulsion is the only answer
It's the opinion of the entire staff that Dexter is criminally insane

That boy needs therapy, psychosomatic,
That boy needs therapy, purely psychosomatic
That boy needs therapy
Lie down on the couch! What does that mean?
You're a nut! You're crazy in the coconut!
What does that mean? That boy needs therapy
I'm gonna kill you, that boy needs therapy
Grab a kazoo, let's have a duel
Now when I count three
That, that, that, that, that boy.. boy needs therapy
He was white as a sheet
And he also made false teeth

Avalanches is above, business continues below
Did I ever tell you the story about
Cowboys! M-M-midgets, the indians and, Fron, Frontier Psychiatrist
I... I felt strangely hypnotised
I was in another world, a world of 20.000 girls
And milk! Rectangles, to an optometrist, the man with the golden eyeball
And tighten your buttocks, pour juice on your chin
I promise my girlfriend I'd, the violin, violin, violin ...

Frontier Psychiatrist
Frontier, frontier, frontier, frontier
Frontier, frontier, frontier, frontier
Frontier, frontier, frontier, frontier

That boy needs therapy, psychosomatic
That boy needs therapy, purely psychosomatic
That boy needs therapy
Lie down on the couch, what does that mean?
You're a nut! You're crazy in the coconut!
What does that mean? That boy needs therapy
I'm gonna kill you, that boy needs therapy
Ranagazoo, let's have a tune
Now when I count three
That, that, that, that, that boy.. boy needs therapy
He was white as a sheet
And he also made false teeth

Can you think of anything else that talks, other than a person?
A-a a-a-a-a, a bird? Yeah!
Sometimes a parrot talks
Hello hello hello hello
Ha ha ha ha ha !!!!
Yes, some birds are funny when they talk
Can you think of anything else?
Um, a record, record, record !

Song Share: The Truth

By Francisco Manzo-Flores

There is a plethora of groups that could be introduced through Song Share in the vein of what I know is tested, tried and proven to be well liked in this venue, but the fact is that we find ourselves anemic when it comes to music that is outside the adult alternative and acoustic areas. A recent brave submission of Saul Williams has made it easy for me to follow the newborn trend when it comes to less than mainstream hip hop.

Handsome Boy Modeling School is easily one of the most amazing collaborations hip hop ever witnessed - however short lived - and unfortunately is also one of the most under appreciated. Nevertheless, the combination of Dan the Automator and Prince Paul (of De La Soul production fame) proved to be so 'money', that most people with an ear to the ground found it impressive, regardless of their background, testament to their wide appeal.

Part of their secret was the fact that both of them are producers, generally shying away from the microphone and in turn the spotlight. Instead they reached out to a multitude of artists and populated their two albums with a rather eclectic but effective mix of sounds. "The Truth", with its lingering piano and jazzy vocals provided by Roisin Murphy (another artist you must look up if you are unfamiliar, try her songs 'Ramalama' or 'Night of the Dancing Flame'), was the first song I ever heard from them and perhaps for that reason it holds a bit more of a connection with me. Hope you guys find it enjoyable as well.

Lyrics:
[Roisin Murphy:]
Go
Go to the mountain if you must
Go to the burning bush
Happy would ease your troubled mind
How do the fade, just stay behind?

I know you better than you think I do
Don't worry
This is why i fell in love with you
The man in the looking glass
Is looking back at you at last

You can't hide from the truth
Because the truth is all there is
You can't hide from the truth
Because the truth is all there is
You can't hide from the truth
Because the truth is all there is
You can't hide

If happy times are too few and far between
It's a pity, dear
We can't erase the things we've seen
So disappear, vanish if you wish
Just go before you're swallowed up by bitterness

And the truth is you can't hide from the truth
And the truth hurts because the truth is all there is
I realized some time ago
That I would have to let you go

May not be true to see that you would return one day
But in your present state
You may as well not be here at all
You wear a thin disguise, it's from yourself you hide
Just take a look at us, we are heading for a fall

[J-Live:]
Now presiding in this court of hip-hop
Justice, my rap fort
is Judge, jury, bailiff or prosecuting D.A.
Et ceteras, paraphas
My modus operende
It's carpe diem whether de facto or de jure
Comprende?
The people versus, you and your Sensi
Teaching that style of word-play
Weaker than Wednesday
Regardless of what your friends say
They're all dissable
Stricken from the record and deemed inadmissable
And this long arm of the law grabs the mic to
Shoot dope lines first and ask questions later
The death sentences of this live litigator
Close the case tighter than the jaws of a 'gator
Stenographers are steady loggin, the jargon
That your counselors are barking, in hopes of a plea bargain
But when you read back verbatim
What they're saying to pursuade them
They realize exactly how i played them
I come with the truth, whole truth and nothing but
'Cause the truth hurts just as much as fuckin' with 'Live will
I brew skill with refills from now until
Plagiarizing MC's get their flows to steal

[Roisin Murphy:]
Baby, I don't die without you by my side
As long as you return into these arms that burn
Baby, I won't die, just take a look inside
Into these eyes that burn
Come to these arms that yearn

I won't die if you leave me high
I won't die if you're not by my side

And the truth hurts
Because the truth is all there is
You can't hide from the truth
Cause the truth is all there is
You can't hide from the truth
'Cause the truth is all there is
You can't hide from the truth
Because the truth is all there is
You can't hide from the truth...

Song Share: Please Don't Leave Me

By Josh Boyle

Pink's lyrics are very honest and vulnerable sounding.

Since I'm a divorce lawyer I deal with situations like Pink sings about in this song all the time. I see spouses do the most awful things to each other. It's sad that someone would treat their spouse, the person they usually have loved more than anyone, worse than they'd treat their worst enemy. And often when the situation is finally falling apart, no matter how bad it's been, one of the spouses will want the other back.

Please Don't Leave Me by Pink

Lyrics:
Da da da da, da da da da
Da da da, da da
Da da da, da da

I don't know if I can yell any louder
How many time I've kicked you outta here?
Or said something insulting?
Da da da, da da

I can be so mean when I wanna be
I am capable of really anything
I can cut you into pieces
But my heart is broken
Da da da, da da

Please don't leave me
Please don't leave me
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this
Please, don't leave me

How did I become so obnoxious?
What is it with you that makes me act like this?
I've never been this nasty
Da da da, da da

Can't you tell that this is all just a contest?
The one that wins will be the one that hits the hardest
But baby I don't mean it
I mean it, I promise
Da da da, da da

Please don't leave me
Oh please don't leave me
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this
Please, don't leave me

I forgot to say out loud how beautiful you really are to me
I cannot be without, you're my perfect little punching bag
And I need you, I'm sorry
Da da da, da da

Da da da da, da da da da
Da da da, da da
Please, please don't leave me
(Da da da, da da)

Baby please don't leave me
(Da da da, da da)
No, don't leave me
Please don't leave me no no no

You say I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back
It's gonna come right back to this
Please, don't leave me

Please don't leave me, oh no no no.
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this

Please don't leave me
Baby, please, please don't leave me

Song Share: Metropolis

By Brad Feuerstein

This is one of the first songs I heard from Monty Are I and it wasn't so much about the lyrics that made me like the song. The musical Genius behind it was just awesome. Had an amazing rock feel a long with some great horn parts.

Metropolis by Monty Are I

Lyrics:
Wake up in this sad city, underemployed and hopes to be with diamonds in her ears.
The people all around her say,
"Good luck with that. Can't even pay this month's rent, it nears."
Girl, I'm worried for you.
But it's not like her to worry.
But she needs to follow the need to swallow pride to get to where she wants,
pride to get to where she is.
And they say she's losing the path she's choosing.
Don't count her out, she'll seize the day.
Now she's making good money.
Dreams aren't as far as they had seemed.
People now, they see.
And she keeps on running to--she's still finding her way.
She falls and rises.
But it's not like her to worry.
Through sweat and blood she'll see.
You can't break this faith from me, this faith that will not be raped.
And it fuels my life's ambition. COME. CRU$H. KILL. DREAM$.
Try quickly, cause I'll shove it back in your face,
and I'll show you what I'm made of.
And you can't make it.
Take the dreams that you're running towards.
Stop your screaming.
Run until you're not alone.
You are not alone. You can't have...

Song Share: Banged and Blown Through

By Alex Madrigal

Saul Williams (or as he is known on this album… Niggy Tardust) is a poet/rapper/actor who collaborated with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails on this album (The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!). I first heard this song at a Nine Inch Nails concert where Trent covered it. I love the idea of the character in the song being a “broken instrument” begging the conductor to “bring out the song” in them. It also reminds me of Trent always referring to NIN as being a “Broken Machine.” I hope you all like the song.

Song: Banged and Blown Through

Artist: Saul Williams

Lyrics:

We are broken

Instruments.

Bust wide open

Smashed and bent.

Not what you’d expect

From these city streets.

Who serves to protect

The orchestra in me?

Conductor, conductor,

I feel electricity

Conductor, conductor,

Can you bring out the song in me?

(instruments, instruments…)

Banged and blown through

(instruments, instruments…)

Banged and blown through

(instruments, instruments…)

Banged and blown through

(instruments, instruments…)

We are broken

Instruments.

Bust wide open

Smashed and bent.

Not what you’d expect

From these city streets.

Who serves to protect

The orchestra in me?

(instruments, instruments…)

Banged and blown through

(instruments, instruments…)

Banged and blown through

(instruments, instruments…)

Banged and blown through

(instruments, instruments…)

Conductor, conductor!

Conductor, conductor,

Can you bring out the song in me?

Song Share: Kathy's Song

By Martin Gonzalez

So originally I wanted to give you a VNV Nation song, but this remix cannot be denied. I know I've already shared a song by Apop but I can't help myself.
I have spent countless hours slaving away to this song it just makes work so much easier when you have a good beat.
I hope you enjoy.

PS: I will bring forth a pure VNV Nation song, I just have to find the right one to share.

Kathy's Song (Victoria Mix By VNV Nation)by Apoptygma Berzerk

Lyrics:
In the beginning
God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form and void.
And darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And God said: 'Let there be light'
And there was light.
And God saw the light that it was good.
And God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light day, and the darkness he called night.
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold... it was good.
And God created man.
And man created machine,
And machine,
Machine created music.
And machine saw everything it had made and said: 'Behold'

Oh my love, it's time
You know how it feels
You read between the lines
You know me better than I do
I lost again, my friend
You know I'm not a saint
You knew it all this time
Still you've been waiting for me here...

Oh my love, it's time
You know how it feels
You read between the lines
And know me better than I do
I'm lost again my friend
You know I'm not a saint
You've known it all this time
Still you've been waiting for me here...

And machine saw everything it had made and said: 'Behold'

Come lie next to me
Know why, you and me are one
Come lie next to me
No lies, you and me are one

(Please) Come lie next to me
Know why, you and me are one
Come lie next to me
No lies, you and me are one...

Come lie next to me
Know why, you and me are one
Come lie next to me
No lies, you and me are one

(You know I'm not a saint...)

You know I'm not a saint...
You know I'm not a saint...

And on the seventh day, the Machine pressed stop...

Song Share: Sweep the Leg

By Kohl Glass

I dig novelty songs, especially ones that take unique perspectives of characters from pop-culture . . . so, I loved Sweep the Leg by No More Kings instantly. But it's not just the content, I really dig the song too.

From Youtube: For fans of great music and "The Karate Kid". The "Sweep the Leg" music video is for the first single by a new band No More Kings. The video features the cast of the original "Karate Kid" including Johnny (the bad guy), Daniel-son (the good guy), Sensei Kreese (the evil sensei), the original Cobra Kai (the cronies), and another special guest.

An interesting side note, the video for Sweep the Leg was written and directed by William Zabka, who played Johnny in The Karate Kid. Notice all the other references to "the 80's" in the video as well.

I often find myself wondering what the lives of 80's antagonists would be like now, decades after their defeat. Sweep the Leg kind of answers that question.

Sweep the Leg by No More Kings

Lyrics:
"Ichi, Ni, San, Shi
Ichi, Ni, San, Shi"

I didn't see it comin’
creepin’ up from behind
I was almost swallowed whole
by the thrill of the fight
it wasn't for the money
and it wasn't just for fun
I wanted to make a mark
I just wanted to be some one
I heard the devil whisper in my ear (uh huh)
he made his message clear when he said:
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
oh good god now you gotta believe me
It never really mattered
I was always under control
Monkey hear, monkey think
there is no fear in this dojo
I was a super hero
king of 1985
I showed no mercy
I was always Cobra Kai
but I caught a crane kick to the face
(uh huh)
I guess he sealed my fate when he said:
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
oh good god now you gotta believe me
good god you gotta believe me
good god, good god
oh, good god now you gotta believe me
oh good god now you gotta believe me
oh good god now you gotta believe me
I heard the devil whisper in my ear
He made his message clear when he said:
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
oooohoooh
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg (johnny)
good god now you gotta believe me
Sweep the leg (johnny)
Sweep the leg
Sweep the leg (johnny, johnny)
good god you gotta believe, you got to believe me

Song Share: McGreggor

By Angus McKay taken from www.angusmckay.net

There was a time when nobody knew the band Elbow, save the devout few who followed them slavishly. I was among those few, and count myself fortunate to be so. Then they made the album The Seldom Seen Kid which won them the Mercury Prize, the Brit award for best band, and a slew of other top awards, and suddenly they were famous and everyone knew them.

Being one of the early fans, their new-found fame is a bitter-sweet pill. Sweet in that they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Bitter in the sense that I always rather enjoyed being the devoted fan of an amazing band that no one had ever heard of.

Nevertheless, I am still a devoted fan and now wish to share another piece of their brilliance from the days before the glory.

This song, McGreggor was recorded with the Leaders of the Free World album, but only released as a B-side, tragically. It came about somewhat as a fluke: while in the studio listening back to the mix for the song Picky Bugger, keyboardist Craig Potter accidentally hit the “half time” button, slowing the track down to half its original tempo (surprise). It turned out to fit perfectly with some lyrics that Guy Garvey had been playing around with, and they cut the track.

The result is this beautiful blend of gospel and rock with the classic Elbow twist.

Lyrics:
Oohhhh
There was lying at the table
Crying on the stairs
A raven on the gables singing
'Jesus doesn't care'
A woman at the window
With her hands on her hips
Staring out across the ocean
Like the prow of a ship
No blinking or emotion
Like the prow of a ship
Just endeavor and devotion
Like the prow of a ship, Ohhh rest in your bed
Oooohhh, McGreggor's dead
The kids were in the kitchen
Carving up the will
where/when the long line of limousines
Snake down the hill
They think they're winning
And shaking hands with the prodigal
And pompous who knew the man
Father figures and mo-fos
Who knew the man
God's torment at the party
As if God knew the man
Ooohhh, rest in your bed
Ooohhh, McGreggor's dead
Recall his lies
Pick up the pen
Record his reign
For the b**** that bore him
Is in heat again
Ooohhh
